"...appoint elders in every town..."
    - TITUS 1:5

This webpage is designed to help you understand the biblical role of elders at The Corners Chapel, why we believe in elder-led congregational leadership, and how to prayerfully participate in the elder nomination process.

Why Do We Have Elders?

The New Testament consistently describes local churches being led by a plurality of elders. Elders are responsible to care for the spiritual health of the church, guard sound doctrine, equip the saints, and lead by example.

At The Corners Chapel, we believe Jesus is the Chief Shepherd of His church, and that He cares for His people through qualified, faithful, and humble leaders. One of the ways He does this is through elders.

Elders are spiritually mature men who are called to shepherd, teach, lead, protect, and pray for the church. Additionally, elders serve as under-shepherds who help guide the church according to God’s Word.
When The Corners Chapel installed our first set of elders, Pastor Matt Matt McAlvey from Parkside Westside preached a sermon explaining the biblical role of elders and why this matters for the life of our church.

This is a great place to start if you want to better understand what elders do, why they matter, and how we believe God uses them to care for His church.

Nominate an elder!

As an elder-led congregational church, we believe the congregation plays an important role in recognizing and affirming qualified men who are already demonstrating faithful shepherding, spiritual maturity, and Christlike leadership. Each June, members of The Corners Chapel have the opportunity to prayerfully nominate men for consideration as elders.  Submitting a nomination does not automatically place someone into eldership, but begins a process of evaluation, discernment, and prayer.

NOTE: The elder nomination form is only open during the month of June and will only accept submissions during that time.
